The Minnesota Green Roofs Council has selected David Aquilina, Strategic Storyteller, to assist the organization with its communications strategy and initiatives. The Minnesota Green Roofs Council (MGRC) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing green roofs as a building strategy in Minnesota. Aquilina is a corporate communications consultant and freelance writer in Minneapolis, Minn.
David is an accomplished communications professional with experience conducting public relations for manufacturers of green building products and green roof systems, said Kevin J. Slattery, vice president, architectural sales, Edwards Sales (Chaska, Minn.) and president, Minnesota Green Roofs Council. A green roof is a supplemental roofing system that covers a conventional, structural roof with a layer of vegetation. Green roofs reduce the volume and velocity of stormwater runoff and thereby curb water pollution. They moderate the urban heat-island effect and improve air quality by sequestering carbon dioxide, releasing oxygen, and filtering airborne particulates. They create valuable green space and habitat in the built environment. Green roofs shade and insulate rooftops to improve buildings thermal performance and reduce energy use and costs. They also extend the service life of structural roof systems by shielding roofing components from ultraviolet radiation and temperature extremes and protecting them against damage from airborne debris.
